I used to think he was the baddest dude ever.  When I was a kid Airwolf came on on Saturday nights at 10 p.m.  The ONLY way I was allowed to stay up and watch it was if I had all of my Sunday morning newspapers banded and ready to go and if I didn't cause problems when it was time to get up to go throw them before Sunday school and church.  If I complained or didn't get up or was nasty that was the end of Airwolf.  Back then there were no On Demand buttons or reruns.  We didn't have cable so it wouldn't be reruns on there either.  I missed about 4 episodes.  What can I say?  I wasn't a morning person - never have been - and I'm still not today.  $200,000 per episode and he still messed it all up with drugs and alcohol.  What a shame.  Check out his interview here: https://youtu.be/QRu6N12ogZY

Mil Mi-35M Hind Helicopter Performance In Airshow

These helicopters are definitely shall we say 'distinct' looking in their bulbousness but are truly an aviation marvel.  Both troop carrier as well as attack helicopter they have served the Russian military quite well throughout time.  Check out this great air show footage of the massive Mil Mi-35 Hind attack helicopter.

One of my favorite shows to watch on television is Building Alaska.  One of my former flight instructors moved up there to work as a tour pilot transporting tourists to and from the glaciers.  He loved it so much he went back a second year even though most only do it once in order to get their turbine transition and log some hours in an ASTAR.  Well the new season of this show has one of the builders, an educated man, saying the word "helicockter".  I 've rewound the DVR three times.  His lips never touch to form the "P" sound.  He says it six more times in episode two.  How can an architect and engineer not know the word is helicoPter?  It was driving me nuts to the point I was yelling at the television.  I know I'm whacky but he's the second grown man on earth I've heard mispronounce the word helicoPter.  My brother and I were watching Comedy Central stand-up about a dozen years ago and a comedian stated that he lived in the bad portion of Chicago where the gangs shoot down "Heli-clocktas".  He kept saying it and we thought it must have been part of his act.  It wasn't - the comedian after him got up and said "the word is "heli-CoPTER"....that's my only thing to say today.  The world's greatest flying machine deserves the respect of getting her name correct. - Pete @helipadusa

Sikorsky S-58T Helicopter: Heavy Lift Helicopters in Long Line Action!

Check out these heavy lifters of yesteryear.  I grew up watching the 1980's show Riptide that featured one of these helicopters that they kindly referred to as "Screaming Mimi".  I remember at the time I found fascinating that a helicopter could be so tall as to need stairs to get in to it - a two story helicopter essentially.  When I moved to St. Louis Missouri I got to see one of these fly a few hangars down from our flight school at KSUS the Spirit of St. Louis airport in Chesterfield Missouri.  That company was Saint Louis Helicopters and they did heavy lift projects all around the Midwest with their Sikorsky S-58.  Our flight school owner got to ride with them on a project I believe.  Theirs was silver and so cool to watch fly.  Well enjoy this video as I doubt you will see these anywhere anymore as they are all going by the wayside due to maintenance and parts issues.  Saint Louis Helicopter as well as Summit's helicopter featured here are no longer in operation.  Summit kindly responded to my question on-line if theirs was still operational.  They have since moved on to the AS350's as well as a KMAX - see a KMAX here: https://youtu.be/quT1Jf7deAw  thank you for following our blog and our youtube channel!  More to come! - HeliPadUSA

I have never understood the mindset of people that buy cheap property near an airport or aviation manufacturing facility and then later begin complaining about noise.  There is a reason the land was cheap folks!  Bell Helicopters would LOVE nothing more than to make silent machines - it would be wonderful for them and wonderful for us - but unless they are able to build and test their equipment PROGRESS can never come about.  As a helicopter pilot I see more and more people complaining about noise and see more and more airports incorporating noise abatement procedures.  I simply don't get it.  Aircraft create noise much like railroads and freeway systems.  Freeway noises are constant, trains and airplanes are temporary as they come and go.  The world without helicopters would be a miserable place and many more people would perish in an emergency.  Personally I'd love to live next to a heliport or airport - the noise doesn't bother me one iota.  I love the sound of blade slap - whup whup!
